Curious why Microsoft did not use Rust to rewrite the TypeScript Compiler?

Are you wondering why Microsoft did not choose Rust to rewrite TypeScript? It may be time to grow up.

As a medium subscriber, I am tired of clickbaits and authors who are good at finding good clickbaits but know nothing about the topic.

After the TypeScript team announced their transition to Go, all my social channels were filled with either complaints about “Why not Rust” or the victorious “Go is beating Rust.”

Like my previous and surprisingly very popular “Why Zig programmers are making so much money,” this one is my response to all those articles, most of which, I believe, focus on the very wrong points.

As an author, I do not write a lot, and if I do, it is usually for two reasons:

  • To force my audience to scratch their heads
  • Or to create a small opinionated holly war with those who might disagree with me but have enough expertise to prove their points.
  • Well, sometimes it is fun to read angry comments.

If you are really curious, WHY not Rust??? I hope you scratch your head… or write some angry comment 😂

You probably already saw a bunch of videos from someone like Prime or some “youtube-coding-expert”:
